My experience with gene therapy has been life-changing, and I’m incredibly grateful I had the opportunity to go through it. The treatment was difficult at times, particularly the chemotherapy and recovery, but today I’m able to live a full and active life. I love hiking and being in the mountains, and I don’t take being able to do those things for granted.
If I could change one thing, it would be the timing. Knowing what I know now about the long-term effects of chemotherapy, I wish I had gone through treatment after settling down and starting a family. That isn’t a regret about gene therapy itself. I remain extremely grateful for the treatment and what it has given me.
There were difficult parts and lasting consequences, but I’m grateful to be where I am today and able to enjoy life, travel, hike and climb mountains.
